10 for 10 Nonfiction Picture Books

The last two years I have been trying to find new non fiction titles to share with my third grade class. Nic Bishop is my favorite non fiction author. All of his books lend themselves to deep comprehension work. The fascinating facts mixed with important information make all my students love them. His photography is amazing!

This is a great book about homes around the world. We had great discussion about cultural differences using this book.

I love biographies. These biographies got my class discussing theories about the "characters" and inspired us as well!

The two titles below are great pairs for non fiction information.

These two titles are also great pairs for history on life out on the west.

  1. Love the themes and the pairings. I also teach this age group (Grade 2/3) and agree that Nic Bishop is fantastic. These snow titles are also well loved in my classroom. The book about Levis Strauss in unknown to me. I am going to look for it. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Amy,
I'm so glad you joined this event. I enjoyed the way you categorized your titles. You have so many interesting selections here. It's interesting the authors I've started to notice across our posts: Nic Bishop, Steven Jenkins, Seymour Simon. I need to add more Nic Bishop to our classroom.

  4. I am noticing that there are a core set of titles and authors on many, many posts! What an endorsement for these books. I echo Cathy and Carrie's thoughts. What I have learned for the next event is the value of thinking about the organization of the titles themselves. Something I need to work on!

    Thanks for sharing.

  5. Hi Amy,
You don't know how many times I think about you and miss our Skype conversations. I'm teaching fourth grade at a new building this year. We should reconnect our classes next year. I love your nonfiction titles. There are some that are new to me. Nic Bishop is a favorite in our room too. I hope you're having a great year!
